Eat no more than a light snack prior to the vasectomy
After Vasectomy
Take it easy for the first few days
No heavy lifting or straining for one week
Wear snug cotton briefs or an athletic supporter for the 1st week
Can apply an ice pack or frozen peas to the scrotum for the first few hours to reduce swelling
You can take acetaminophen (Tylenol), or Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) to relieve any discomfort.
It is normal to have some bruising/discoloration around the vasectomy site
You can take showers immediately. Avoid baths or swimming the first week
If skin sutures are placed, they do not have to be removed. They will dissolve in about a week.
Remember you still need to utilize some form of birth control until a semen analysis confirms no sperm present at 3 months. It is also recommended to have at least 20 ejaculations to clear any residual sperm. You can resume sexual activity in 5-7 days.
You will be given a semen collection container to submit the semen analysis to the office at no charge
